How to: Social Media for Professional Services

That social media is a vital tool for professional services to connect with clients these days is an understatement. Different professions each have unique needs of social media, there are some things that are a common thread.

Understanding Your Audience

Identify your target audience’s preferences and behaviors on social media. Real estate agents, for instance, are more successful on Instagram and Facebook where visual content is central to both. Tailoring your strategy to the platforms where your audience is most active is key.

If for example, you were a real estate agent or lawyer building their reputation in the field as a thought leader, LinkedIn would be one of the platforms you would need to be on.

Content that matters

Content should be informative, engaging, and tailored to your audience’s interests. In keeping with the previous example, for real estate, this might include market insights, neighbourhood insights that would appear to their buyers or client testimonials. If your career was in the law, content might include common questions and answers around your specific area of law or what prospective clients need to know/ have/ bring before they step in your door. Regardless of your field, ensure your content adds value and fosters engagement.

Consistency and Authenticity

Regular posting and interaction help build a loyal following and content should include the personal and the professional. This could include personal anecdotes around cases or clients, depending on your industry — but be aware of your permissions to post about your current clients and customers, and check in on your firm’s policies around it (same for photos, have permission from people).

Leveraging Video and Live Features

Video content is going to boost your engagement (another understatement much, considering how things are going). Real estate agents often use these features for Q&A sessions, property showcases, and market updates, demonstrating how professionals can use live interactions to connect with their audience more personally.

Using Analytics

Posting and hoping something sticks isn’t going to get you anywhere. Analyse engagement patterns, post reach, and audience growth to refine your strategy.

If you’re a lawyer, real estate agent or accountant, social media can be a a dynamic and powerful tool to enhance your online presence, engage with clients, and grow your brand. It’s a matter of using it the right way to make it work for you.
