(or any other boring business)
Hey fellow accountants! 🤓 Just crunched some CRAZY numbers for a client. Their tax return was so LIT! 🔥 #TaxationIsTheft #YOLO #AccountingLife
Cringe-worthy, right? If you nodded, congratulations! You’ve just witnessed the perfect example of how not to use social media for professional services.
I get thinking that any content is good content, but what if you actually planned your social media strategy? Here’s how:
1. Know your platform for professional social media
Your dance moves don’t belong on LinkedIn, but if you can set tax information to music and dance, then maybe (just maybe) TikTok is calling.
2. Be authentic, but choosy in your social media content
We don’t need to see your “Monday Morning Meltdown” livestream. Share genuine insights, but keep it professional.
3. Provide value through social media marketing
Shocking, I know. People actually want useful information. Share tips, industry news, or explain complex topics in simple terms.
4. Engage, don’t broadcast: Social media for business
Social media is a conversation, not your personal soapbox. Respond to comments and ask questions to encourage interaction.
5. Quality over quantity in social media posts
Posting 50 times a day won’t make you an influencer, just annoying. Focus on creating fewer, high-quality posts.
6. Use visuals in your social media strategy
I know it’s hard to get the right visuals, or want to be in front of a camera at all. Stock photos are okay, but please, if you’ve seen one handshake, you really have seen them all.
7. Stay professional on social media platforms
Some people balance the professional and personal on their accounts perfectly. The question is: are you that type of person? Investigate those accounts and be ruthless – can you maintain that balance, or would it be easier to have a separate personal account?
8. Be consistent in your social media marketing: Consistently good. Develop a regular posting schedule and stick to it. Your followers should know when to expect new content from you.
Remember, good isn’t about being everywhere and doing everything. It’s about connecting with your audience and providing value.
So what do you need to do next? Just choose one tip from this list and implement it this week.
What will you start with?
