I think if business owners are polled and asked what is the toughest part about social media, time and resources would be top of their list. Here are some tips to make managing your socials a little easier.
Content, so much content
A social media strategy needs the right content. If you’re short on time, and hiring a social media manager is not on your radar, then yes try AI: ChatGPT and Claude 3 are two I use (Claude 3 does not make me sound like Cher from Clueless). But here’s the thing to remember: AIs need your input to give you content, and smashing out prompts that sound right in your head isn’t going to give you the right content for your socials. Or your website. Think of AI as your first draft, while you need someone that understands you, and captions to turn the AI-speak into something human.
Social listening
As much as engagement is important, you also need to understand what is happening in your industry as a whole, and what your clients want to see. You can use Google Alerts or join industry-related groups to see what topics other businesses are talking about.
Why scheduling your content matters
Scheduling tools give you back your time, and let you plan and post across multiple platforms. But, they also give you a heads up as to the times your audience is most active, and the most eyeballs on your posts.
Analytics
I think this is the most boring part of social media, but I will never stop shouting about it. Set aside the time every week, or every month to understand what works or what doesn’t.
Repurposing content
Repurposing doesn’t mean copy and paste, it means refining your content for the platform and audience it reaches – and being consistent.
Whether you’re an accountant or small business selling food hampers you need to be strategic about your socials – without affecting your core business activities.
