Managing priorities: this quote has been living rent free in my head

“If we use busy as an excuse for not doing something what we are really, really saying is that it’s not a priority. Simply put: You don’t find the time to do something; you make the time to do things.”

From Tribe of Mentors: Short Life Advice from the Best in the World by Tim Ferriss.

I keep questioning myself – am I just not making the time to do the things that should be a priority in my life? Are my admin tasks not a priority when compared to my client work? Am I choosing to focus on the wrong thing, even though it makes working with clients easier? Is taking Ziggy for a walk after a long day not the right use of my time when I could be prioritising talking to clients, for example?

The quote left me doubting myself and the things I need to get through every day, and as a small business owner, I am sure you can understand that.

If you’re like me, you are pulled in a dozen different ways because you’re in charge of everything in your business: managing your store, your orders, clients and handling finances – and let’s face it, handling your social media.

For me, finances is where I know I need help, personally and with my business. I know the basics, but, if my business needs anything more complex, I know I’ll need help and I’ll need turn to my accountant. He listens to my questions, answers them (very) patiently and takes care of the things that would take me far too long.

Maybe it’s time to think about priorities differently and embrace help from whatever expert you may need.

What do you need to start thinking about differently?
